It is time for another minimalist SEO moment. All right.
In today’s moment, we are going to talk about a situation that a lot of people find themselves in often, and that is you’re trying to rank for a keyword term that another company dominates and owns.
So usually it’s product or service related.
So if you’re promoting a product that another company actually owns. For example, say you’re promoting an Avon product, and you want to try to rank for that specific product in the search results.
Plus a lot of high authority sites are going to be dominating the review related search terms.
Because your blog doesn’t have the authority to even compete with those guys, you are in a tough spot.
How do you compete with the big players, promote the product and still get organic traffic?
I would recommend, instead of going through the front door, let’s go through the back door.
Instead of creating a piece of content that is specifically related to that product or service you’re promoting, determine what is the problem that product or service solves.
Then write an article about that problem, offer up a number of solutions and then use that product as one of the solutions that can actually solve that problem. From here you can direct people towards the actual page where you promote that companies product or service.
You want to go to the side or to the back door and get people who are looking for a solution to a problem.
It could be that they’re not even looking for that product and that’s even better. If they’re just looking for a solution to their problem and you happen to have the solution, it’s going to be a heck of a lot easier to get them to buy that product through your link.
